We believe the business events sector has an important role to play in making Sydney a sustainable destination and we consider environmental, social and economic factors to maximise the positive, and minimise the negative, effects of our work. We support Sydney as a sustainable destination Sustainable Sydney to 2050 We partner with the City of Sydney in reporting into the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDSI), which in 2023 found that our city’s sustainability performance continues to rank in the top 30 worldwide; and lessening tourism industry impacts through the City’s Sustainable Destination Partnership (SDP) which brings together hotels, event venues, cultural institutions and tourism bodies, several of whom are BESydney Strategic Partners and Members, who work collaboratively to achieve real and measurable environmental impact for Sydney’s tourism, accommodation and entertainment sectors. 2023 results against a 2018 baseline include: 24% reduction in emissions 13% of electricity sourced from renewables Reduced electricity by 26 million kWh Reduced gas consumption by 122 million MJ 24% reduction in potable water.
